Default Clio with bubbles in header tank???

    Hello all,

Bit off topic but got the mrs's 98 clio up to running temp earlier and noticed it was sat a little above half way.. which is a bit high for a 1.2 when its only 1 degree outside.

Popped the bonnet and noticed in the header tank tiny tiny bubbles rising from the bottom. (Like when you put water in a pan and start heating it). Normal? and a little bit of auto paranoia? Or something serious?

The coolants not mucky and the oils not emulsified, but would be nice for some other opinions...

Normal mate, remember the car is circulating the water around the engine, as long as its not losing coolant all should be fine

Its not normal for air bubbles to be bubbling up in the header tank. Get the car engine to operating temp and then SLOWLY, and allowing the pressure to escape, remove the cap from the header tank. Now get someone to rev the engine while you watch the coolant in the tank. If it bubbles up or volcanos over the top, you're looking at a head gasket.

The oil will only emulsify if the head gasket has blown between an oilway and the water jacket. If the head gasket has blown between the water jacket and a cylinder, then the coolant system will pressurise via cylinder compression, causing bubbles in your header tank.

Sorry for the way I put it, I meant it can sometimes look like bubbles when it is actually just the water circulating, propper air bubble I agree are not normal. Worth getting it sniff tested too
