Default Different tyre sizes front and back?

Quick question.....as the title suggests can i run matched pairs but of slightly different sizes front and back?

Currently need 2 front tyres, running 215/50 all round (no pun intended) and would like to move to the 225/45 for choice/cost, and replacing the rears in several months.

    That sound ok?

Not sure i'd want to go far and wide without the same all round but it dosn't sound as though its that big of change so should be ok, having said that i'm currentlt running 14" snow tyres on the front of my Cav while having 17s on the rear i just use it for work though not far to travel.

Yep absolutly no problem doing that and there are many members on here that have done so. Might I suggest you put the new ones on the back to wear the 215/50's out a bit quicker

I've been running like that for twelve months with no problems, wished I'd put the 215/50's on the front though, but I'm soon due a set of all four and will be buying 225/45's.

legally no problem as long as the same axle has the same size tyres fitted. New tyres should always go on the back. For info I found Camskill 215 tyres slightly cheaper than 225.

    why would going from a 215 to a 225 mean going from a 50 to 45 sidewall?

As the side wall is a percentage of the width so if the width goes up the percentage goes down to keep the sidewall roughly the same

would that not change the circumference of the tyre though and therefore the put the speedo out?
