Default Should I let the dealer service my car

My Vx dealer are charging me £150 for a minor service on a 1.9cdti.

    I actually want the dealer to service it;

    A) to check for software updates and
    B) to sign off the anti-corrosion warranty (a dealer check is necessary every 2years to protect the wntry’)

    BUT

money is very tight at the moment; I could DIY-it for <£40 and have £110 in my pocket.

What would you do and why?

I wouldn't do it for the anti-corrosion warranty....it's very rare to see rust on these cars, unless it's from stone chips and that probably isn't covered anyway. If you do let them do it, it's for the stamp in the service book.

I remember hearing ages ago that you can take your car to any garage for a service now without effecting the warranty, it was something that was bought in to stop dealers from making so much money from you after you bought the car..don't know how true this is or if it's still applicable, I just remember hearing it. If it's true, then you can have your car serviced by any garage you choose without effecting the warranty....Can anyone confirm if this is true?

It's true...as long as the garage is VAT registered and uses genuine Vauxhall parts, then the warranty can't be voided by the service.

I only ever use main dealer servicing
Yes you pay a premium, but once out of warranty you can ask the dealership to use after market parts and the difference between an independent and dealership is then greatly reduced, equally you can also supply all the parts yourself
I tend to supply the oil
The benefit there is that if any part fails, which was inspected as part of the service, in the next month you can claim on the service

There is some debate over bodywork inspection, as many dealerships can't offer this
However as I understand it, as long as the services were performed by a dealership then any claim can be accepted

Personally, most claims are rejected as "wear and tear"
I tried it on a previous Vectra and an independent inspection showed the damage had been caused by a stone chip

Equally, the dealership did make me aware of a paint blemish during service
However, VX asked me to take the car to a VX bodyshop for inspection (which has now closed)
It was dealt with while I waited, took them about three hours
