    Default Crunching Noise

Hi all new to the site and novice at repairs.

I recently decided to repair my own car (same as most people money tight nowadays) . So i replaced all brake discs and pads and then began to get a bug for it. So changed air, pollen and oil filters and oil change. So next i noticed some other things need doing so would like some help from you guys if possible.

I have a vectra 04 plate just the standard 1.8. I have a noise coming from the front when going over speed bumps at anything faster than edging up and down. I have read a few posts over past few days about possible issues from drop links and ARB bushes so i plan to get under at weekend and look. However i noticed movment on the front O/S wheel when holding in 3 oclock and 9 oclock and shaking and seen a few suggestions for this also.

If anyone could help me by directing me on what to look at when under to establish which of all possible culprits would be causing the issues as i really cannot afford to replace everything at this point in time.
    So i believe:
Crunching could be : springs, ARB bushes, Drop Links
Movement could be : bearings (i beleive complete unit with abs would be needed i may be wrong), track rod end.

The crunching is probably drop links or ARB bushes as you say. Not expensive and are relatively easy to change.

    Default Thanks

thank you Ste for the reply.

Was wondering if anyone has a guide/pictures as to what to look at and what it should look like so i can identify what needs replaced from the parts i mentioned.

I.e how to tell if drop link is knackered or ARB bush is knackered.

Also how to tell if its the track rod end or the bearings ont he wheel movements thing.

Please excuse any stupid comments i make new to the repair thing

    Default Big Thanks

Guys finally got round to doing the droplinks and arb bushes today.

thanks to the How 2 it was straight forward to do.

    The dreaded crunch has gone.

    Couple pointers for anyone.

10mm ring spanner worked better than the E12 torx spanner i bought (due to restricted space could not get the torx on all the time)

I also used a very long bar and E12 torx socket for the front torx screws on bushes was much easier.

Result there mate, but the question I suppose is ; what was the cause of the crunching, the droplinks or ARB Bushes, I suspect it was more the bushes?

    Default Correct

It was the bushes in particular the front offside .I had both front ends up on axle stands and the drop links off. The minute i touched the loose anti roll bar on the driver side there was that dreaded noise.

@GsiFan mate make sure you set sometime aside as those bushes can take forever due to lack of space (get a 10mm ring spanner instead of paying for an E12 like i did)

Other than that its a very simple process

Thank you, Decker. I have at least one 10mm ring spanner already, so that suits me fine.
