Thread: stuck calliper

    Default stuck calliper

    so i have found out that the rear drivers side calliper has seemed to have got stuck on so were do i go from here,what parts would i need to replace.
    do i change the complete lot calliper,pads,disc.
    do vx sell the calipers.....
    was getting a mate to do it but hes thrown his back out so it looks like it's going to be a garage now that does it but i dont wanna be getting ripped off,ya know with all there mmmm,aahhhhhing £££££££ so what price range would i be looking at...

    I would imagine that all you need to do is take the calipers off and clean up /copperslip the sliders, these are the posts that attach the caliper to the hub assembly,and as long as these are not rusted all you need to buy is a set of pads.

    Probably the caliper piston seized. Just replaced mine last weekend, £70 for a reconditioned caliper from an independant. Over £100 reconditioned at Vauxhall and £150 for a new caliper. If pads are OK thickness wise no need to replace. You can buy the seals for rear calipers for £30 from Biggred but a fiddley job and in my experience not worth the cost and effort.

    The rubber inserts where the caliper slides go through maybe the problem. Corrosion of the caliper body pushes against the rubber inserts. you need to remove the inserts clean out the corrosion and refit.

    yes thats the same as iv'e done tonight, where the inserts sit was all grown up with corrosion stopping the slider pins from .......well sliding, cleaned it all up and seems alot better. would be worth checking
