    Default Maintenance free chain

    These little Opel engines:
    1.0
    1.2
    1.3 Cdti
they are all chain driven. The 1.0 and 1.2 are said to be maintenance free. What does that really mean? You don't ever have to change them?

What is the change interval of the chain for each of these engines?

I didnt know what subforum is the correct for this thread, so I posted it here where the most traffic is ;-)

    Default

On many engines, the chain is supposed to last the lifetime of the car - assuming of course oil changes are carried out correctly.

Several reports recently of the 1.2 engine having problems. Bolts that hold the camshaft in are coming loose which end up with a broken camshaft.
