I didn't see that, and I was out and about at that time!
Looks like it might be he northern lights, but this is a strange time of year for that kind of thing!!!
WOW, and thats at 2:30 in the morning.. what time is sunrise at this time of year ??? - could that be what you are seeing. (but the sun rises in the east... )
Might be light reflecting through particles of dust etc. I did not see it as at the time I was starring at the back of my eye lids.
that time of the morning the reddish glow is the sun, setting/rising as at 2.30 it was just starting to come back up, the direction is precisely NNE as looking at the sun right now (12 noon) it is not quite in alignment.Originally Posted by spoons
As we live close to the North Sea, I'm wondering if it is reflected light.
BTW the Birds woke up at 3.20 am this morning - when the sun started to brighten the rest of the sky some more.
The moral of the tale - Dont watch Pulp Fiction then try to go to bed - it dont work
But in 31 years - I have never ever seen the night sky looking like that.

ye mate that is the aroraboralass (the northern lights ) dont think i spelt that right though .but im its somthing to do with light reflecting of the ice sheet in the north pole i think. we see this quite often up here in scotland
here you go this explains it http://www.alaska.net/~bttlodge/northernlights.html
Cool
We're supposed to occasionally be able to see Aurora Australis (the Southern hemisphere euivalent of Aurora Borealis) but I've never managed it. I never seem to be in a dark enough place when it's supposed to be visible. But all the photos I've seen look very cool...
The sun came up at about 04.20 ..... I was just on my way home from work!!
I was wokiing on the runway at Luton Airport and saw this start too at the same time of 2.30 the sunrise did happen at around 4.40 that day. We were all wondering what it was as it looked so weird to see something like that.
