Default K&N Air filter for a diesel

Lo all, Went to enquire about a K&N air filter for my 52 plate 2.2DTI and was informed by the chap behind the counter that there was no real gain from fitting one because there is already sufficient straight line air flow to the turbo.

OK, is there any point to buying one apart from it will be the only one you need ever buy

Was the guy talking tonk or is there any real world gain for dropping approx forty quid on one of these?

Performance wise there is only a small gain using a K&n on the dti,s so the guy was intrinsicley correct , depends on how long you plan on keeping the car , it will take 5 years before the k&n will start paying for itself
    Driving vauxhall,s for 30 + years
    and still loving it

As said No real gain on the derv's bud.... Its more in the head the the car feels like its breathing better but in the real world it probably isn't.....

Yes you have wasted your hard earned money. I bought a K&N for mine, what a waste of time as it makes no difference what so ever.

The free air box mod probably makes more difference, and I didn't like the fact that there was clear daylight showing through parts of my K&N when I held it up to the light! Also, if you over oil them, they can ruin your MAF sensor in no time at all. Something else that is now collecting dust in a box on a shelf in the garage. LOL

I have put it on mine a while back and I dont think theres a big gain as such but there is a difference on the response when accelerate.

Also it works better when you do the airbox mod
