Default BIG Thanks to Soulman - Springs and front disc change complete

Would like to say a BIG THANKS to my ever faithful fearless friend (Gotta be fearless to work with me lol) for the help with changing the front strut roller bearings, top plate, and brake discs, plus 1 drop link....

Pics of todays play follows. A few tools laid out ready for work

Undoing the top mount nut with the correct vortex and hex tools

Preparing to undo the 2 bolts which hold the leg to the hub

Someone took a sneaky shot of me working

    Old vs New disc

New disc with a touch of coppaslip on the hub to stop it sticking on

Not happy using the spring compressors with just one impact wrench... So I used two!!! ps One of them is for sale on ebay

Removing the top plate now the leg is off the car

The offending bearing, almost seized, dryer than the bottom of a birds cage

Think this bit needs a clean?

Bit of coppaslip in the bottom of the pan now its all cleaned out

Think this has been better days too

    Strut now rebuilt

Leg being refitted back to car now its all done

Now all refitted both side.. Job well done me thinks

Just need to finish off when I get the correct pads, ended up with pads for a Veccy B, plus also change the other droplink too.

Hex is a star shaped bit, vortex are sockets with large diameter hole in them so another tool can pass through the middle of them with the ratchet fitting around the outside of it.

And as for same pic 3 times, was using a generic file link and altering the end jpg number but forgot to change it... Should only be 2 of the same now

Top roller bearing approx £18, i got both for £28. Only need to be changed if you have problems with twanging noise and not as a matter like a service item.

Vortex sockets have a hole through the middle to allow an allen key to counter hold the centre of the strut.

I have that set and they are ace
