Default Z20NET Tapping noise when cold

Just looking for a bit of info into what it could be as its going to the garage i brought the car from tomorrow. I own a 53 plate Vectra SRI Turbo that when it's cold it has a metallic tapping noise from the engine, it's fine once the car has been run and warmed up but as i only have a 3 month warranty on the car it would be nice to suggest to the garage what it could be so they can sort it. Also on another subject i have noticed that when i take my foot of the throttle to change gear the revs seem to increase ever so slightly making it sound like i can't drive properly (it's slighly worse when giving it the beans), could this be related to my engine management light been on. Cheers.

Could be one of the tappets that is starved of oil on start up. When the tappet is full of oil the noise disapears.

Could this be down to the garage i brought it from using the wrong oil when they serviced it before i picked it up, looking through the handbook i noticed it recommends 5/30 fully synthetic.

It may be the wrong oil, but i very much doubt it as garages know to check carefully what they put in.
The throttle part.. i know the feeling lol! i have put it down to being eletronic throttle as apposed to old fashioned cable.. not that im a flid that cant drive

I bet if you do an oil change put in a top oil (and of the correct grade), such as Mobil1 0W40, the noise will either be much quieter or gone completely.

how good is this generic super synthetic GM oil 5W30 for Z20Net? Some other vendors oil must meet standards GM-LL-A-025, as I see Mobil1 is one of them.
    So recommendation is Mobil1 0W40 for Z20NET engine...any other?

    thx

Thanks people for your responses, at the moment i dropped the car off at the garage this morning and it turns out the engine management light came on due to a sensor coming out of somewhere. As for the tapping noise until i go back down to the garage this afternoon i'm still none the wiser, if tapping is still there i will have to go into work and change the oil and go from there.

There are probably several brands that meet GM-LL-A-025 - have a look on the label, it often says so. Mobil1 exceeds the GM standard though, rather than just meeting it.

Well, got the car back from the garage i brought it from and they are having to have it back next week as it seems that it's timing chain related but at least it will be sorted under the warranty i got. Has developed another problem though when cold now, the throttle seems to rev between 2500rpm and 3000rpm when ticking over, any ideas please.

Well it's really getting on my nerves now, first time in 5 years i go back to owning a Vauxhall and it's been nothing but problems since picking the car up Tuesday. Engine management light has come on again (was in the garage this morning to sort it out), i believe this is down to a sensor wire under the car (a bit silly if you can't go over a speed bump without damaging it), the light in the rev counter comes up now with the spanner in the centre of A car and then a couple of minutes later it's like the turbo stops working so throttle is very sluggish (stopped at the petrol station to put fuel in and then it seemed to be fine after that), problem with the timing chain which the garage is sorting next week, rattles coming the rear of the car and from behind the drivers side of the dash i think. The whole idea i thought of buying a newer car than the last one you had was that there would be less problems but with my old 1996 Audi A4 in the three years of owning it the only problem i ever had was a cv joint explode on me. Can anyone make any suggestions of what to do because this is all spoiling the fun of having a new motor.
