I have the Falken Ziex tyres all round mine in the 225/45/17 size and they are so much better than the Goodyear F1 GSD3's I had on before. They are almost silent which is the best part, and they grip really well in all weathers including snow. My car is a automatic and will wheelspin in the snow more than it will grip but these Falkens have changed that. I will defo have some more when these have worn out and they cost me around £308 for all four fitted and balanced etc

Falken are quite good for a budget tyre.
Nowhere near the premium tyres for grip or durability, depending on what you're lokoing for, but still one of the best budget brands I've used. Bought many sets of these on other cars, and had two on the vectra. Goodyears were much better in my experience, but you get what you pay for.
As for Toyo - haven't used them myself, but everyone says they give excellent grip. Sport tyre, and of course they do not last very well. Looking at about 10k miles tops for the fronts by (most) accounts.

Falken - good budget tire, with a little (too) longer life, it's a pretty hard tire.
Toyo - very good, sticky tire, but wears very fast, it's a soft tire.

I had 912 on my last car. That was a 3.0 and needed the XL rating. Your 1.8 won't need that, so I'd say 452 might be better.

I found the 912 were far better than the goodyear F1. Quiter, grip was at least as good, and they lasted longer. No to mention a lot cheaper.

    I got mine from www.camskill.co.uk
