Default Replacement for the auto gearbox cooler

Has anyone fitted an aftermarket cooler for the automatic gearbox cooler? I'll be doing some work on my gearbox, mainly changing the valve body and oil, so I was thinking maybe I can find an aftermarket cooler for it. I definitely think it would be much better than the original one, which is shared with the main cooling radiator.

Well, as I was saying earlier, I was looking to change the automatic gearbox oil cooler with an external one. This week the job was done. The cooler I bought from eBay.de was made for Audi A6 Allroad Quatro, 5 gears automatic, so I think it will get the job done.

Yes Dose, that's what I was thinking when I heard all the trouble some people have gone through because of GM's bad design.

Thanks John! I tried to make it as profi as I could. It sits right as I wanted it to sit, very close to the A/C cooler. It gets a little warm and there are 2-3 degrees Celsius outside. I wonder if it will do a good job when it gets really hot outside. Anyway, I really think it's better than the original solution.

A really bad jerk when going from 5th to 4th on kick-down. Otherwise, it was all good. I think I'm gonna put it on eBay, for someone who has other problems than mine.

The other reason was that I really love my Vectra and I decided to keep it for 2-3 years.

    Hey folks,

I've read through the whole thread and have been inspired to flush my trans and install a cooler! Can someone please take a picture or describe which of the two transmission cooler lines is the one you use to pump the fluid out?

I don't think it matters, as long as you use one IN and one OUT.

Nicely done Lao, looks spot on and definitely takes care of that worry.

My dad's Vectra had to get the box replaced (under warranty) after the cooler seals failed. They pulled the valve body cover, saw the white mess and said straight away "that's a new transmission needed". Even though they replaced the trans and the radiator seals etc with uprated parts, I've always been a bit worried it'd fail again.

Methinks a separate cooler is just what's needed! (Also going to do one on the Volvo V70 too, that's got the Aisin 6-speed auto in it and has the same stupid setup....)
