    Default DMF vs Starter Motor

OK, don't ask me the wheres and why's and hows, because I was confused as well.

A good while ago, I had the DMF replaced twice and although it was quieter, there was still a rattle which has really annoyed me.

Anyway, whilst it was in the bodyshop, one of the service technicians was looking round the car in the bodyshop, I know them all very well so the trust is there.

He started the car to move it out the way and heard the rattle. He spoke to me about it and I said I know, it's ther DMF.

His reply was................it's not the DMF, it's the starter motor, I thought he was having a laugh. So whilst it was in, they replaced it under warranty.

Picked it up today, and instantly you can tell it has a new starter motor, turns over quicker etc and the starter motor noise is so much nicer than before.

But the main thing........................................the rattle has completely gone! I was amazed and very happy to say the least. The old starter motor when inspected didn't look good at all.

I'd consider using Marshalls of Leicester to sort problems out Matt.

    They certainly know their stuff!

It's so good that a mechanic would point something out, rather than try to hide it!

Did the old dmf's kill the starter motor via contamination?

When DMF's start to break up or deteriorate, the Charlie Romeo Alpha Papa, gathers in the bell housing of the gearbox, it also gathers in the starter motor. In the end, the starter sticks. At work I have replaced a number of DMF's on newer LDV vans (replaced them with solid flywheel conversion kits I might add), and the starter motor is always done at the same time due to this happening.
