    Default oil extractor

So after rounding off my sump plug, my dad came up this weekend and he has decades experience of removing stuck stuff and he couldn't do it (although he didn't go all the way cause I need my car for work). We've decided it'd be less hassle to just get an oil extractor and suck the oil out.

Taking the sump off looks like a lot of hassle.

Anyone used an oil extractor on a 1.9 CDTi before?

Saw one in action a few days ago, brilliant piece of kit. Dead easy to use, no mess and a helluva lot easier to dispose of the old oil. The guy bought it from one of the car parts distributors, and said it was not that expensive.

I like the idea of one of these. But how do you know that you have sucked all the oil out?.

I have one, but never used it. Plasma did his with one, he said he then took the plug out as normal and it only left a very small amount of oil in the sump.

Thing is. He took the sump plug out to check. Me being me. Unless the machine was infalable. I would prefere to take the sump plug out. Then I know it is empty.
But then this machine would not be as messy (or as in a lot of our cases) than draining the oil into a container.
I like the idea even more, this "pump thing" is growing on me.

The one I saw had markings on the side to tell you how much oil had been syphoned out.

But now he knows for next time what is left in the sump. My plan would be to do interim changes with the pump, and a full oil service with a flush through the plug.

This is the pump I got. EBAY LINK.

I have toyed with th eidea for a while, but how do you know if you`ve got the tube all the way to the bottom of the sump? is it possible that you could push it in too far so that it doubles back, so it wouldnt drain it all? or not get to the bottom of the sump in the first place?
