    Default wheel bearings ????

Hi all, i have a weird "deep howling, like the wind", sort of noise which seems to be coming from the wheels. I can't figure if it's the front or back, left or right. It starts at about 15 mph, first i thought it was a wheel bearing but usually they get worse/louder when load, when cornering, is on the wheel and quiet when not this noise stays the same. A mechanic friend says that two can "go" together and he changes them in pairs. I checked at my local parts counter and they come as units with hubs and ABS sensor at about £80 - £90 each. The brake pads are getting low and you can hear a noise when they're applied, not grinding, and they're not on the limit, anything to do with the "howling" ?

    Help please, Jayson

p.s. not changed wheels or tyres, all the same.

No mate, tyres seem fine. The noise started about a week ago, but she doesn't go far, a few miles to work and back. She's done 112k now if that helps any. I wonder if the after snow pot holes around this way are to blame ?

Could be faulty mate, i'd go back to who fitted it ,if they supplied it.

I thought I needed a wheel bearing with the noise and vibration, turned out the rear caliper had siezed on. Spent this morning changing it in the snow . Wouldn't care but I bought a new bearing off ebay.

Had front wheels off and the inner brake pad on the n/s seems very low, sticking caliper maybe ? Outer pad has loads of beef left.

    Your thoughts please,
    Jayson
