yeah had a read about and couldn't really see anything saying if it harms the engine or not to have it dis-connected

It shouldnt harm ther engine immediately however long term disconnection I wouldnt advise as it is there for a reason.

I would get it fixed as soon as finances allow. I drove with mines off for a year. If it has fallen off of its own accord then thagt means the bearings have given up and may collaps causing the flaps to be sucked into the engine.

The engine may seize or it may crush them up and spit them out the exhaust but personally I wouldnt take the risk on looking back.

    hi Asty,
mines off too, I did attemp the rubber washer repair but that failed after a weeks,(think I have the wrong glue rubber keeps dropping off ! - anybody know whats best to glue with ?) but to be honest i could tell no difference when it was on or off?!....but then again your flap guides / bearing areas do look really oily compared to mine which is probably more of the problem with the air leaking on the induction side, rather than the flap operation hence the performance issue sometimes.
Did around trip of 80 miles on motorway and "A" road today and got 52mpg...thats not bad considering mines done 76 thou with no swirl flap operation..and i wan't tootling along either !
i would consider replacing my manifold only when it really starts to play up etc.......
Good luck with the repairs though.....

I had a bust intercooler which masked my manifold issue, but I has to get the manifold replaced as when the intercooler was replaced it would cause the flaps bearing to give way eventually.

i will be ok to drive, just dont cane it, if youre getting it done under warrenty everyones happy

the performance will suffer though, either at low or high revs due to the swirl valves either being stuck open or closed
