ramps

was going to pick up a set of ramps to save me having to jack the car up all the time. however the ones in halfords say they are only suitable for certain tyre width and up to 14" wheels.

Suitable for tyre sizes:130 x 10" to 185 x 14"

Looking on ebay, none of them mention suitability or limited based on tyre size. Does this really matter?

I haven't used ramps for 30 yrs but I do remember they could be a nightmare to use, especially if it was damp - & beware of low splitters or spoilers you may not be able to get up steep ones

I have a set of ramps that I think I have used only once with the Vec (I have access to a pit, but used the ramps on my mates drive once). They fitted OK, but the front lower lip did catch, so I had to be careful.

TBH, a second hand set off Ebay would make far more sense to me based on cost.

are these the ones you mentioned at £40? A local car boot will usually have someone selling a set for much lower price. BUT check, as some look cheap and nasty.

Yeah. Also looked at screwfix they have a set that is 215mm wide at £42. Might put a wanted ad on gumtree see if anyone has a set kicking round their garage.

i used my standard ramps the other day and ive got 235,35,19's on, there was abit of overhang but once up i put a couple of axle stands under to be on the safe side.

i got an old set made for me many yrs ago when dad worked for steel works my old rover had 245 tyres on so the set was made up wide and tall with a extra ramp i could add to them to give a better run up as car was low . down side very heavy
