Default Screen washer problem - Please help

I picked up an 04 GSI last friday and have a slight problem.

Basically, When I start the car I get the "Check washer fluid level" warning. I have topped up the washer bottle and I continue to get this warning. But not only that it will not spray the windows. The wipers swipe as if it has sprayed but no water. However the headlight washers do squirt when the headlights are on.

I've not had a chance to have a proper look yet, but I'm not convinced I can hear the pump, and the fuse (15 amp - Fuse 5 I think) seems ok.

The car was MOT'd in November so it must have been working recently

So any ideas on what it could be? or where I can start looking.

Sorry if I've posted this in the wrong section.

    Thanks in advance,

    Matt

Sounds like your pump is blocked / jammed / knackered, new pump i think mate, especially if you say u cant hear it

EDIT: Have a look at the washer bottle with the bumper off for better access

No need to take the bumper off.
Just turn your steering hard right.
Undo the 4 torx bolts that secure the front of the arch guard to the front of the wheel arch and bend it back a bit.
You will see the washer bottle.
The pump just slides up as its an interference fit.
You will be left with what looks like a thick black plastic washer, this is the top of a micro filter.
Waggle it up, its about 2cm long.
You will get wet as the washer bottle will empty.
Give the filter a clean and refit.
Vx advise not to use screen washer fluid, this is because it goes slimey and blocks the filter.

Cheers guys. I'm on a half day today so will have a look this afternoon when I get home.

Had a feeling it could be blocked from reading other threads, just wondered if that would be causing the issue with the level sensor telling me it empty as well.

If I didn't know better, I'd think Vx had got some monkeys in to do some of their design work. They advise "not to use washer fluid"?!

Straight from the manual on what should be the most simple of jobs - changing a lightbulb - "As the headlight must be removed, entrust bulb replacement on the right side to a workshop. We recommend your Vauxhall Authorised Repairer." I mean, seriously, what were they on? I have never before had a car where that is the recommended course of action. How on earth do they sell any of these cars in Europe? In France you have to carry a complete spare set of bulbs with you in case any blow and replace them immediately - how is that possible if you then have to take the headlight out or get to the nearest authorised repairer?!

What's next - we recommend that you do not use diesel in your engine as it may clog up the filter and the EGR?!

I hope cleaning the filter out fixes your problem Matt!

Cleaning the filter will hopefully get the washers working again, but what about the low washer level warning?

Check for leaks as well as this could explain the lack of water coming out of the jets and the low washer water warning.

Could be. Do you know how does the level sensor comes out? I've never removed mine.

I'd rather have a blocked filter than gunged up pipes & blocked jets so I wouldn't risk that
