Default Programming the auto gear box?

Would just like to know can the auto gear box on the 08 Vectra be programmed to change gears at different speeds? At the moment it doesn't change From 3rd to 4th untill I get to 40mph and from 4th to 5th untill 53ish mph. I'd like to change it to about 35mph for 4th and 49 or 50mph for 5th. Would vauxhall do it or would I have to find a specialist? Thanks, ste.

Good question. I'd like to do the same with my 2.2 Elite Auto.

The 'downhill' logic could do with some extra programming too. Sometimes it notices you are going down a steepish incline, and decides to invoke engine braking by changing down a gear (whatever your speed...). Normally not a bad idea, but with so many hills here in Bradford, it soon becomes annoying as the downchange is done with very little finesse...

Our gearboxes are supposed to be 'adaptive' - the ratios are supposed to change with your driving style. I drive really slowly - but the gearchanges have not adapted.

Anyway, look forward to some opinions...

I thought the auto boxes were self learning, so if you drive slow the gears change slow, if you drive fast, they change faster to suit

The manual mode is ok for changing up (eg 3rd to 4th) but it still uses pre-determined ratios for changing down (and it will change down, even if you dont). ie it will put you back in 3rd at 30mph. Hence when trying to drive round town at 30ish mph you tend to hover between 3rd and 4th as the gearbox hunts and 'does its thing'.

    Why do that?

If i take it easy for 5 mins while driving around, the engine revs lower and the gears chnage up sooner for better fuel efficient driving

If I go round the streets eating boy racers, the gears change at much higher revs and the fuel consumption goes down

If I had to disconnect the battery everytime me and the other half changed seats, Ive never have the bonnet down

I think one of us has a problem.
Mine is in 5th gear at 30mph,something i really like because of the extra economy it gives.
I do however agree with the downhill thing, really pi$$es me off at times.

The ratios never change, its the 'Shifting' times that change depending on how you drive it....AKA....Adaptive. Im not entirley sure how many adaptive modes there are on the boxes....I assume the 6spd autos will adapt slightly differently to the 5spd autos.

I do know that when the wife drives it (miss daisy) the gear changes are Not that smooth and change up early, when i drive it (Normal driving) the gear changes adapt well and change when i would but when i drive it 'properly'....the gear changes are much later and definatley give it a more sporty feeling BUT the fuel stops are much earlier...

Oh and mines got the 5spd.

Dont think a dealer will be able to reprogramme the box, This will be a specialised job which will mean new software being written for the gearbox..££££££.

You can re-programme the box as there's a VX TIS2000 field remedy for shift flare from 2nd to 3rd:

    Subject:AF 23/33 -5 Transmission - Delayed 2 - 3 upshifting / shift flareModels:Engines:Option:Vectra-C 2002...2003,Signum 2002...2003Z22SE| Y22DTR| Z32SE| Y30DT| Z22YH,Z22SE| Z22YH| Z32SE| Y22DTR| Y30DTComplaintelayed upshift ( approx. 3 - 5 sec.) during upshift from 2 to 3. The engine speed increases by 200-400 RPM.Cause:Transmission-oelpressure varying during upshift from 2 to 3.Production:As of MY 04 modified software and hardware (Transmission and TCM) have been introduced.
    Remedy:

In case of customer complaint reprogram TCM with Software as of TIS 2000 CD 52.
