No glow plug light

1.9 cdti 150 70k on the clock

have had the car for 1.5 yrs and have never seen the glow plug light! very cold this year -12 one night and still no light, should it light up? i think yes? do you?

does the light always come on at bulb test ie second click ignition, or does it have to be a cetain temp ie less than 4 degrees?

i have no spanner light, thank god, had enough of those in the past, so i am guessing that the bulb has gone. The reason i wish to get this sorted is that i am hoping this this bulb will also tell me wh en a dpf regen is occurring. some say it does light up some say no?? does yours on a 04 veccy estate?

If it doesn't light up but it starts ok why are you worrying about it? Fingers crossed and all that

The only way to tell if the dpf is on a regen is to watch the instant consumption and see it plumet. You may also hear a different exhaust note and smell burning.

It could well be the builb has gone... or it could be the coolant sensor giving a false reading

i keep an eye on the instant fuel and it has never shown any signs of doing a regen and have never noticed engine tone. the only time car has done a regen was when put on tech 2.

i can check bulb, not too difficult, temp censor i will have to look at tis to find it, have also concers regarding water temp, car slow to warm, but its cold out and its a deisel.

is the bulb suppose to light when ignition on? if not what temp is supposed to activate it if car hasn't been driven

I doubt its a bulb out as there are not any bulbs in the dask. Just smd's

just had a look at the dash and how to get it out, decided that if car starts then i can live without a bulb woring, just wait 10 secs when cold. if no bulb, thanks for that info, what? car starts ok even -12, couple of turn overs, but hey it was ****** cold!

How do i prove glow plugs working without swapping for new ones, would really like to know if their ok. i know they get hot, how hot? is it worth turning ignition on, on a cold day and touching them, is it possible to feel the heat. how long do they heat for.

I am right in saying that all veccy deisels have glow plugs??

also i take it that glow plugs are not linked in any way to dpf regen are they?

Nope they are not connected to the regen.

just rang stealers, they said never heard of smd going.

car outside temp works ok, if that is the same temp reading that controls glow plugs, or does it come off the water temp guage?

well would you beleive it! lights working now, playing around with the steering cowling must have moved something, light comes on for a second with the ignition, that was 5 degrees. i'll see what it does when below 3.
