Default Signum rear bumper lower trim cutting question

I'm having new exhaust fitted in week or so time, currently have the twin 'hidden' rear boxes (its a 3.2 V6 prefacelift).

I don't want to go down the oh so predictable twin round pipes with the 'standard' replacement lower trim, but if the current trim gets chopped will it loose all its strength?

Has anyone gone down this route?

If it does go a bit 'floppy' then would bonding some shaped plate to the inside stiffen it up enough?

    Any advice appreciated

Me too in fact I have done on 2 bumper extensions now and it is fine, the fixings at the top of the strip and the 2 fixings from the lower edge to the top in the middle of the strip mean it is very secure, I used a dremmel to cut it out after making a cardboard template, which will ensure they are the same shape and the slight depression each side will get the alignment right.
