    Default Quick EGR Valve Question...

    My mates CDTi 150 Vectra is starting to lose its low end power, so we have checked the swirls etc.. and everything appears ok, so we took off the EGR valve to clean, my question is does the solenoid side need cleaning if the pin moves up and down freely, very freely infact.

    yep clean as much black soot as you can out but expect problem to return shortly after. i cleaned out egr thoroughly on mine and all ok for a few weeks but then coughed + spluttered and lost power under 2k revs again.
    bought a new egr valve and perfect now.
    i also find running a tuning box blocks up the valve quicker than normal so regular cleans are essential.

    Solenoid side rarely gets too much soot on it, but can still be cleaned if any is present. If it's nice and free, it should be okay.

    Its the valve seats area either side in the casting which should be thoroughly cleaned of any crud/soot, and dont forget to carefully clean the inlet opening where it fastens on, that really builds up with some nasty deposits reducing the opening quite a lot. Scape it outwards to try and prevent any going inside.

    Watch that the aliminum gaskets dont fall off when its removed, I used the same metal gaskets without any issue's but it's probably advisable to replace them at the same time. Cost about £2.

    I've been having the same problem with mine for the past few weeks, absolutely no power under 2k revs so i'm thinking my EGR valve needs cleaned.
    Only problem is i am a complete n00b. I had a quick look in the how 2 section but it's still not very clear to me where it actually is.
    Could someone please post a pic of exactly where it is on the 150 as i really need to get this sorted ASAP?
