    Default Upgrade to SKY HD

    Hi to all,
I am looking to upgrade my sky+ to sky+HD. I called sky and have quoted me £49 for the box, additional £10 a month for HD and £60 for installation. Does anyone know how to get a lower installation cost as the twin cables are already in place, all the sky engineer has to do is plug and play. I enquired about the installation cost for new customers which is £30, if I was to take sky multi-room I would get installation for £30 but pay an extra £10 a month. I threatened them with leaving sky and they passed me through to the cancellation department. I didn't proceed any further.
Does anyone know if I was to cancel sky would my sky+ box still work regarding the recording of programmes.
Thanks for any info which will be greatly appreciated.

Hi your sky box will not record if you cancel but you will still be able to view. I had a sky HD box out of warranty and when i asked for disconnection the did a service call free and then replaced the box with a new one. So don't threaten them ask them to do it you will find things start happening and they do everthing for free

agreed - other option is to buy a hd box from ebay or somewhere and then just ASK for a HD card/subsription and they will send out another card - you can then plug and play yourself

I tried the nice approach and got no where! I have been with sky for over ten years, i have sky plus and multiroom and i asked about the HD upgrade and they said the same thing. So i left it a few weeks and rang them up and said i was canceling and changing to virgin media ( i wasnt because it crap LOL ) and its like they are scared of the V word because within 5 minutes the manager was on the phone and i got HD box free and £49 to put it in, so saved myself 60 quid!

Or get someone on here with Sky HD (ahem) to recommend you and we'll both get something out of it too

As mentioned above no Sky box can record programs once the service is terminated, and importantly you cannot view anything that's been previously stored on the units hard-drive either when you did subscribe.

I stopped my multi-room subscription last year, and ended up losing or at least not being able to view a load of stuff I had recorded with the intention of viewing later. They are still on the hard-drive but you cant replay them.

Often thought about buying a FreeSat box, but the wife loves those NCIS series on the FX channels, and I dont think you can get those on Freesat. We have to use a dish, as normal Freeview is not receivable here.

Sky customer service is rubbish, we've been with them for at least 10 years and struggles to get broadband off them over the phone. Did it online and just hoped and it came eventually. Tried the phone line as we don't use ours other than the internet and we can't get it as our postcode is wrong!! We have the full package and phoned threatening to leave and they gave us half price rental for 6 months so not so bad. But a friend of mine has the basic TV package that's it and phoned to cancel and he got a Sky + box! Think it all depends on the representative you get.
