    confused headlight flicker

I have a '06 1.8 SRI, with 28,000 on the clock. I love the thing to bits ! But for rome reason when the steering is pointing straight and just turned slightly from side to side the headlights dim for a fraction of a second then back to normal, causing a slight flickering, They work perfectly at all other times. Does anyone know what this is or is it normal, should i be worried something will go bang later on !?
PS great site and so far i have found loads of useful info on here.

both my Vecs have done it, and ones @ work I have driven do it, I suspect it's a design flaw. Most cars will do it when both electric windows are pressed it's just the load on the alternator.

The thing is you have a power steering pump that is both electrical and "numatic" and when you turn the steering there is an enormous power drain on the electrics. That is why the headlights dim. I know mine does it too. I also founf that when the TC cut in when we had the snow the "info" screen would dim whilst the TC was stopping the wheels from spinning.

Loads of posts on here on this subject...a well known 'characteristic/quirk' with the Vectra C's with the electro/hydraulic power steering GM invented....I've just put on a higher capacity battery because of a discharging battery & mentioned in threads on Battery Issues....no difference still flicker.. alternator is rated a 120amps...Think it was Ste who measured the current draw from the alternator with practically electrical consumer on the car ON but without the power steering being used & measured around 100amps-1200watt at least..have you tried turning the steering wheel without power steering....Schwartzengger springs to mind....

Tends to be when you are turning the wheel at low engine revs that it's more noticable...I've learned to live with it as have many others....cheers

I noticed this exact issue this evening (not had car long at all) as it was my first time driving at night in the Vec. I have seen something similar i.e. elec window effect. Anyway so I put some revs down and moved the wheel, but the lights still flickered. I thought by revving the engine a bit it would give more power (Im no mechanic), oh well, as above, just have to live with it.
I wonder if it is noticeable whilst driving along?
