    Default Multiple Warning Lights!

All below relates to my 05 Vectra 1.9 CDTI SRI:-
    Help!
I've just driven home from work. After a few minutes of driving the red battery warning light came on though the car continued to drive ok. After a mile or so (thankfully I was almost home) the yellow steering wheel warning light came on and it was was one hell of a struggle to turn the wheel and manouvere the car around a corner / park etc. When I got into my parking space and had killed the enigine I tried to restart the car to see which warning lights stayed on but now the car wont start and I'm getting the "spanner" (service?) warning light?! The car was serviced in July and has only done couple of thousand miles since then

Any help / advice for this newbie would be greatly appreciated!

    Al

    Spenny,
    Many thanks for the assistance.
Unfortunately the technique for obtaining the code doesn't seem to be working in my car (I get no flashing lights to count).
Strangely my car started this time with no warning lights present?
Also my power steering appears to be working again?
I probably should of mentioned earlier but the red battery light came on yesterday when I was driving and the car continued to work fine throughout. Admittedly it was another short journey.

    Signum,

Many thanks for your advice also.

I've been reading through the forums and came across similar issues with regard to the alternator. Can anyone please advise which numbers I should be looking at with regard to the folowing recall issue that was posted in another thread:-

    Model - Plant - From - To

    Vectra C/Signum - Russelsheim 41080136 - 51000100
    Vectra C - Ellesmere Port 48066725 - 48110149"

What do these numbers refer to?

I looked at my VIN and it has 10 numbers and my engine number has only 7

    Many thanks for the response.

Is there any other symptons that would indicate that this is the problem and if you don't mind me asking how much was it to fix?!

    Good morning all.

I guess this is the last roll of the dice for me.
With the problem I'm having with the car it looks like I'm going to have to go to the main stealer as it's across the road from me.
Does anyone else have any info to add to this thread?
    Particularly with reference to:-

    Good Afternoon All,

I've managed to get down with my multimeter this afternoon.
I'm getting 11.6V with the engine switched off and with the engine switched on it's dropping to 10.5V. My lights came on when I tried to add load and I couldn't get my vents to blow. At no point (with the engine switched on) did the voltage rise above 10.5V.Would you agree that this (along with the other information in this thread especially post 1) indicates my alternator's on the blink?
