Well just before Xmas I did the unthinkable and stuck unleaded in my diesel tank! I stuck in 6 litres before realising so straight away put 10 litres of diesel in to counter the mess up! I called the AA for advice and was given the party line that I was not to drive the car upon pane of the engine going thermo nuclear and taking out a small village! They quoted £185 for the pleasure of a patrolman laughing at my mis-fortune!
I called a couple of local garages and was told by one that they would do it for £80, however the other (a Vauxhall specialist) told me to fill the tank to the brim and give it a good run with plenty of cornering, this he said would dilute the petrol to a degree, and infact only 6 litres might well be good for the engine! He mentioned that farmers usually put in a bit of petrol to stop the diesel freezing in winter and it can help give the engine a bit of a clean! Anyway I went for this option (Im tight I know!) and 700 miles later no problems!
