    Thumbs up Diesel mis-fuel

Well just before Xmas I did the unthinkable and stuck unleaded in my diesel tank! I stuck in 6 litres before realising so straight away put 10 litres of diesel in to counter the mess up! I called the AA for advice and was given the party line that I was not to drive the car upon pane of the engine going thermo nuclear and taking out a small village! They quoted £185 for the pleasure of a patrolman laughing at my mis-fortune!

I called a couple of local garages and was told by one that they would do it for £80, however the other (a Vauxhall specialist) told me to fill the tank to the brim and give it a good run with plenty of cornering, this he said would dilute the petrol to a degree, and infact only 6 litres might well be good for the engine! He mentioned that farmers usually put in a bit of petrol to stop the diesel freezing in winter and it can help give the engine a bit of a clean! Anyway I went for this option (Im tight I know!) and 700 miles later no problems!

What are your views? Done the same?

    Default

    Don't worry.

As they told you, in the winter fuel blenders have to put normal fuel into the diesel to prevent "flocking". The diesel you buy at the pump in the winter is already blended.

Just do a search on "Winter Diesel" in google.

Fill your tank up with diesel and do not worry.
