Default Think I might burn it....

After fixing the poorly designed swirl bar, Cleaning the EGR valve and a few other bits. The hesitation under 2k came back but no where near as severe, So I took it to my mate who read the fault codes with his T2, One was for the Swirl bar, Cleared that. 2nd one was for an Air leak. Thought ok, We'll attach this handy little smoke generator to the hose out of the airbox, about 3 seconds later smoke is pouring out of the Intercooler, then it starts coming out of the swirl valves.... All 4 of them. So...

I need a New intercooler and AC rad (also fubard due to no protection from the elements) and a new inlet manifold.

or a can of petrol. Proper hacked off with it now. My 10yr old mondeo diesel only ever needed a new battery in over 3yrs of ownership.

Think I might join you, Ive had enough of General motors and their vectra s. Love to drive it, but in less than two years Ive had a recon engine from the dealer (my dad insisted) 3 clutches and two DMF`s. It may be a taxi, but ther has only been 24000 miles put on since new clutch and fly wheel, 8 months prior to that a new clutch, and just last week, it decided to rip the teeth of the clutch plate. All this done by the dealer, it makes me mighty suspicious

Indeed, a keen eye when buying and a warranty are a must on these.

Also, these cheap fixes hardly ever work for a period of time anyway, when the swirls go, they go

A decent one does indeed cover the DMF and Swirls..... which are the most expensive 150 faults... the others are manageable.

Getting the parts quoted today, Might see if I can get a used rad pack, think all the manuals are the same.

Since doing the swirl bar fix its been alot better but the swirl pots are all leaking air so thats boost pressure venting to atmosphere = less power and less mpg.

I might be asking for trouble here but that seems to be the best thing about my lowly 1.8 LS, the reliability. Is my 1.8 engine used in a higher state of tune in anything else, eg the 1.8 petrol sri's? Is it the engines which are more highly tuned versions of others which tend to have probs?

I don't think the engines are any different mate, gearboxes maybe, but the engine output is the same.
