    Default water pumps

    anyone heard of bearings in a water pump making a whistling sound and if so what damage can it cause. many thanks rick,its a veccy 2.2 petrol.

    Dunno about a whistling sound, but the bearing would be the most likely thing to go on them, or the impeller itself if it's a plastic one. If the pump does fail, you lose the coolant flowing therough the engine, it'll overhead and in the worst case could write the engine off...

    i had a new pump fitted 4 weeks ago,got it back and it whistles when going thru gears took it back said bearing had gone,gotta wait 2 days before i get it back,foc of course but never heard of a new one going straight away rick

    whistling is common when the bearings go

    here we go again 2nd water pump fitted and the car is still whistling,garage can't get to the bottom of problem,anyone got any ideas or had this problem before many thanks rick

    try the tensioner pully mate just take it off and give it a look at mine is whistling when cold in mornings is this my pump you think its not my pully checked it . and not the alternator pully . does anyone know where the pump is on my vectra 2003 model 1.8

    The water pump on your 1.8 03 year is driven by the cambelt, so is located under the timing covers.
