i changed the black hose from, the airbox to the throttle body, to a chrome 1. but the rubber connector came off at the throttle body and the emissions light came on. i changed back to the boring black 1 and after a few starts the light went out.

so cut a long story short, check the hose is back on properly and the sensor connector. it should go out if everyfing is ok, after a few starts

As mentioned. Try disconecting the battery for "say" half an hour. Make sure you have the radio code if your radio need one. By disconecting the battery it might "reset" the emission problem.

Does the light come on and stay on when you start up or does it just come on for about 5 seconds then go out?

If it's the latter scenario, I wouldn't worry as it's not a current fault and should disappear over time, say 30 starts.

Yep as mentioned above. If the fault does not occur again, then it will class it as an "historic" fault and wipe it off. I know on the Vectra B it was after 40 start up,s.
