Default Signum 3.0 DTI Fuel consumption

Hi all. I have every intention of changing my beloved Omega for a Signum in the near future. I fancy the 3 litre v6 diesel but am a bit cautious about the fuel bill. Most of the reviews and specifications seem to say that there is a combined of 40mpg, but the adverts I have read on ebay and the like seem to indicate that it only does about 28-30mpg round town. Can some of you v6 owners give me some indication of realistic MPGs to expect during everyday use.

On a good long motorway run at 70mph in cruise with no traffic, almost 45 would be achievable I reckon. I average about 40 with a mixture of mostly motrway and a bit of urban, and yes if you only do urban your MPG will suffer A LOT - it is a 3.0 V6 Turbo after all...

Try a test drive and feel the in gear torque you get though, it's phenomenal...

    Hi,
I have the Vectra Auto with the 3.0 diesel in it, I get about 45 on a motorway run, around the 75-80mph mark. If I'm only doing short runs, which has been my main driving since I got the car a few weeks ago, then I get about 30-32mpg, if I get a bit bored and actually drive the car hard, it goes down to about 25mpg.

But they are a fantastic engine, my local dealers offered me test drives in a V6 auto and a 1.9 (150 I think) auto, I took the V6 out and bought it when we got back, never even got into the other diesel. Its such a smooth drive, and sounds good

I have the Omega 2.2dti at the minute and get around 38 mpg round town and traveling the 8 miles to work. I have never had such an economical car. The best I have had is 57mpg on a trip to Plymouth and I dont wear a cap(yet..). Thanks for the replies so far. For my pocket's sake I might look at the 1.9 diesel. I wish they still made the Omega.....

my old 3.0 estate averaged about 38. on a run high 40s. The 1.9s are better on fuel, but the 3.0 is IMHO a much better engine. Try one

    Vehicle : Insignia

    Trim : SRi Nav

    Engine : CDTI158

approx 10 mpg less than a good 1.9[150], and there's not a lot of difference in outright performance.
The 3.0 does have much better low down grunt than the 150, pulls strongly from idle. No contest there - 1.9 comes only alive at around 1800rpm.
3.0 just runs out of puff quickly, and that + the weight is why it isn't a lot quicker than the 1.9[150].
Definitely prefer the way the 3.0 drives personally. Just that 10mpg is why I'm in a 4 pot.

i used to get about 34 round town and 42 on a long run. Its a much better engine with a lot less faults that the 1.9 cdti.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    Not a Signum, but a Vectra C
For the first 80K miles I was getting an average 32.8mpg
The computer was reset when the gearbox was removed
In the last 10K miles it has gone back to 32.8mpg

If I push really hard I get the equivalent of just 200 miles to a tank (15mpg) *
If I monitor the instant mpg I can get 500 miles to a tank (38mpg)
If using 5th gear instead of 6th gear and driving at 53mph (as this gives the best mpg) I can get 700 miles to a tank (53mpg)

    * I got this last week on an approved test on the M74 between Abington and Motherwell

there a great great drive but the fuel econ can be a little bit of a bug bear for the loss of 10mpg you do get smiles per mile more ..i drive a vec c estate auto and ive got 3 kids and i go from dudley in the west mids to aberdeen just over 420 miles and i need to refuel at around the 385 mark this is the most i can get out of her fully loaded and setting the cruise to 70 with the odd blip above that ...just to add my old vec b 2.2 petrol could do 430 odd miles a tank on the same run with shell optimax ..if i drive at 55mph i can get upto around 560 miles to a tank but who wants to drive to aberdeen at 55 mph ....go for a v6 the fuel econ will be the only thing you will be able to moan about there great cars ........and dont break down as much as the 1.9 lol
