I think I have buckled one of them as after 3 different places the balancing will not shift the wobboly steering problem.

i used to have a test to tell which one is causing it, used to jack one side of the car up and then spin the wheels up through 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th gear to about 70-80 and see if the steering wheel wobbles, then used to do the other side, would tell me which wheel was causing it. I stress this can be quite dangerous if u brake hard because of the inertia of the wheel. Maybe when i was 18 i was just less worried than i am now.

If i did it now and it came off the axle stand my car would end up in my bedroom!

The other wheel is sitting still! Tried it on the Vec the other day but TC was saying no.. Couldnt be ***'d to pull out the abs fuse.

BTW Gsi3.2 i swapped the left and right wheels over, stops pulling to the right now, but loves to jump a tad, cant feel no play in the bearings...

So your sitting in the car with one front wheel in the air. Do I understand correct that you then start the engine and accelerate while one wheel is in the air? So why doesnt the other wheel turn?

because of the thingy in the gearbox, dunno the name for it. but its built like that to allow one wheel to turn faster than the other, like when going round corners. I only know cause i built a gearbox from an old lego set... think its called a differential

Thats why it has a diff fitted. If it was a limited slip diff it would be a different story, the car would be in the bedroom The diff transfers the drive to the wheel travelling the fastest. With both wheels off the ground and the car in gear both will spin, you can then grab one wheel and hold it. The other will still turn. Trust me, i've done it!
