Default Clean EGR while engine running

    Hi,
Seen quite a few posts on here about cleaning the EGR after dismantling a bit of the car.

Been having a dig around on google and found a Wynns product which you spray into the engine while it is running. Someone on ebay doing it for 7.65 with 2.95 P&P

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=150372970532

Anyone used this? I found a video on youtube the other day, couple of Eastern bloc guys (I think) put it through on a Focus, producted a LOT of crap out of the exhaust (neighbours might not like it!)

Also found another product from Wynns which actually foams up, fills the pipes and cleans that way, something they do on the big V6 Ford diesels in the US apparently, but that looked like a specialist job as it was about $300.

Try the search button there has been a few threads about it on here mate iirc.I would use it for cleaning some crap out of the inlet manifold but i have doubts about how good it would be at cleaning the egr valve it took me half an hour with carb cleaner and an old tooth brush to get the crap out of it!I would imagine that the spray stuff would mainly pass over the top of the carbon as theres nothing to agitate it to work itself in if that makes any sense .

I used the EGR3 myself - some of the threads on here about it have posts from me. On the DTi, you can actually see the EGR valve by taking the top half of the inlet manifold off (I couldn't get the EGR valve out of the engine and gave up before I damaged something).

After using 2 cans of EGR3 (car had 90,000 miles and had not had a manifold/EGR clean done before), the thick layer or soot on the EGR valve and the inlet manifold had gone. OK, they weren't shiny clean like if you physically rubbed them but all of the soot had gone, but it was quick and didn't involve disassembling anything (I removed the top half of the inlet manifold because I needed to replace the boost sensor as well and it's easier to do with this removed on a DTi).

I think I paid around £8 for each can of EGR3 from a local motor factor so perhaps ring around before buying online.
