    Default Help & Advice Needed

    Hi All,

    I have a 2004 Vectra DTi 2litre

Has been a taxi and has done nearly 200k (pls take this into consideratino)

It has what seems to be the common fault of the DMF (Flyweel)
When the car is turned on and in neutral with the clutch let out, it sounds like there are tonnes of nuts and bolts crashing around the car, but when the clutch goes in and also when in gear and moving, the noise completely stops.

Can someone confirm this seems to be the problem?

I have taken it to a garage and they have said flywheel and you would need to replace clutch aswell (although it has not long had 1)

The only thing bothering me is the fat that reading through most posts, that should be it, yet they are telling me that the gearbox will also need replacing and the overall cost is going to be £1000 +

Can anyone local to me (Portsmouth) help by any chance, and do you think this is right?

    Thanks

    Liam

I thought that only the CDTI's had a DMF?
IF I am right, then it sounds like the clutch release bearing....or maybe even Clutch and Gearbox.

Have a couple of garages check it before getting it done.

Cannot help with the garages or having a look but it probably is the dmf. If its recently had a clutch there is no reason it cannot be reused unless its been wrecked. Also I have never read of someone having to replace the gearbox when changing the dmf.

after speaking with Mr Clutch Portsmouth, (they haven't seen the car) when stating that the noise goes away when the clutch is depressed, and is there with the clutch not depressed, they say sounds like gearbox is knackered, but the ****** thing drives fine?
