    Default Which Fault Code Reader?

    Hi All
I'm new to this forum so please be gentle with me.
I've ventured over from the dark side (Ford) and just treated myself to a 55 Vectra CDTi Estate over Christmas and up until today I love it to bits.
Driving home from work tonight the emmisions light has decided to come on. The spanner light came on earlier and went off after 10 minutes and as I said, this evening the emmissions light came on.
I have been googling for a while trying to make or tail about fault code readers to try and deduce what I need to change but to no avail so, as I have been lurking in the background on this forum soaking up the good advice I thought I would ask you Vectra gurus which fault code would be best to purchase.
I have looked at this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...pf_rd_i=468294

but I am a little unsure if it will do the trick.

So what would you suggest, ideally I would like to attach to my laptop, reasonably priced and hopefully reset the ECU as required.

    Thanks in advance
    Bren

Cheers for the reply Andy, is this the one you got from Argos? It seems to have some good reviews and at the price seems a good buy.

I bought one from eBay recently, it's a U480 something or other. Paid about £25.

I have this one from Argos: RAC Diagnostics Scanner. It worked fine on my Volvo S80 (2000) and gives certain realtime readings from the ECU whilst the engine is running. Haven't tried it on the Veccie yet...

    Hi all

Got the reader from Argos today (cheers Andy top tool that) and within 20 seconds I had the code (P0400) EGR Flow malfunction.
Where abouts is the EGR valve on a 55 Vectra CDTi SRI 150 and is it a pain to test? Looking through this site and Google there seems to be a lot of sucking to be done (fnarr! fnarr!)

I am hoping it is just a loose connection before I send it back under warranty as I am needing the car for Saturday and I would expect there being little to no chance of it getting sorted by the garage by then.

PS. Anyone near Blackpool needing to borrow a reader then feel free to give me a shout.

I've just got the AA chap out to it (I knew that home start would come in handy). He has put a load of EGR cleaner through it and it got a bit better in that it was sluggish as ***k up to 3500 revs and then it was flying until about 70 whereupon it wouldn't go any faster.
Ah well off to the garage with it. I would do it myself but it's still got warranty so I might as well let them sort it.

    Thanks everyone for your help.
