    Default waterpump

    i have a 56 plate vectra 1.8 sri done 47000 miles and about to get timing kit changed and was wondering is it recommended that you change the waterpump if anybody can advise plese let me know

    i changed my timing belt kit 12 months ago and my water pump went last week and had to change kit again the water pump was cheap on ebay half the price of the shop

    On the XER engine ( yours ), the pump is not driven by the cambelt. It's driven by the ribbed belt. Follow the water hoses and you'll find it to the left of the dip stick. Pump is about £50 plus just over an hours labour.

    Pointless changing it its driven by the aux belt, not the timing belt..

    I did a 'How to' for replacing belt, tensioner, rollers and water pump for this engine.

    Even if you don't do it yourself, at least you will know what is done etc.

    I waited for the second belt change before I changed the waterpump (100K miles). Depends on what your own thoughts are and probably how you use your car. Mine is mainly motorway, and I do about 30K miles a year.
