    Default Cambelt Service....

It's service time for my CDTI now that it's rolled over the 100k mark. It had a minor service at 81k before I bought it at 85k (8 months ago). It's also due a new cambelt + waterpump as there's nothing in the history (full VX) to say it's been done before

Vx have quoted me £700 which seems a bit steep, and haven't had a chance to shop around yet....what should I be expecting to pay all in?

    Cheers

If it is just the cambelt kit, waterpump, and fitting
    I would expect between £300 and £500

as above, £300-£400 for the cambelt, £200, maybe more for the service, get the brake fluid done too.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    150 or 120 bhp m8?

*edit just seen your tag says you have 120 sri*

Belts are very straightforward to do, no more than £150-200 labour from a reputable garage. pump is a bit more work as you have to remove cam pully to get at it properly. If you want thestamp in the book I'd get a local good garage to do t/b and pump, then let vx do the standatd service

The car is over 80K miles so is out of warranty
However if the car is under Network Q or a third party warranty I would recommend having all the work done by a VX dealership
In the event the cambelt fails it is much easier to claim against a VX dealership than an independent

I had this happen on a Ford Mondeo, I was without my car for 3 months while I argued that the car had not yet had its first MoT and so Ford were liable
Even though the car was on 110K miles and well out of warranty Ford eventually conceeded as the car was still covered by a third party warranty who were not happy that such a simple part failure had completely wrecked the engine (taking the repair cost to more than the value of the car)

Don't forget that the these have a Fiat engine fitted so a independent Fiat specialist might give you a better price, but then any independent garage should be able to do a cam belt change/waterpump in a couple of hours.

I got my parts direct from Vx and it cam to £150, although I guess the parts can be got cheaper elsewhere.

I did mine my self so saved on labour, but I would have thought around £100 to change one, plus parts as new antifreeze will be needed also.

it was only 320 for my v6 cambelt job.. if the waterpump had to be done as well that was only another 150... and that was at a main dealer
