Default z20net - ticking noise from engine when warm

    Hello,

Got my 2007 2.0t Vectra with 40K miles on the clock and it is a nice ride, but I noticed some strange noise, only when engine is warm.
I drove over 60 miles every day and when I stop and leave the car in neutral I can hear tapping/ticking noise from the right side of engine (near the tyre) if I look the car from the front. If I go in a car and press clutch or just slightly press on gas pedal, noise disappears and then come back again when idling.
Pressing clutch several times and noise is gone for some time...it's like something gets in resonance or two small steel materials will tapping

BTW: I noticed that service fill oil over the maximum indicator...is this somehow related?

Is this something to worry about?

    Thank you.

Could be the dual mass flywheel about to expire.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

hmm I hope this is not the issue

Doesn't DMF problem behave just opposite? If there will be DMF problem noises would start when i press on clutch pedal or am I wrong.

This noise is present only when car is idling and engine is warm and I am not touching any pedal.

I guess you are right...I am a bit paranoid

It could be the dmf as they go quiet when you press the clutch half way down.

Could also just be the tappets making a small amount of noise

I recorded this idling noise. I also step on clutch pedal some times, then noise is not present anymore.

So this is DMF then? But at 40K miles this is strange...is this some factory fault material or is the driving style what caused this?

Mine ticks when you turn the engine off after I've given it some beans at rounderbouts etc... until I learnt to drive a little easier near home.

If the oil is up to or over the MAX line on the dipstick, I'd get that sorted first. Garages always did that with my car before I started servicing it myself. I fill it to somewhere about two-thirds of the way from MIN to MAX and it definitely runs and performs better like that than with the oil level right on MAX or even above it.

If you're lucky this may be causing the oil pressure to be a bit on the high side and this may in turn cause the ticking noise, especially if it didn't do it before the last oil change when it was overfilled.

It's a quick and easy thing to rule it out first before looking at more complicated/serious/expensive things...

Thats the heat, you need to make sure the turbo has cooled down before you switch it off or it can burn the oil left in the hot turbo causing it to fail eventually.
