The law states when I am unable to pass my test every three years, so it could be any time really!

Considering my 70th birthday will be in 2060. I expect by the time I'm getting into pension age that the road network and cars in general will be vastly different to as they are now. And if it hasn't by some freak occurance then I will probably pay a driving instructor to give me a mock test and if I can't pass it then after a few tries I'd probably cash in on one of those pensioner's bus passes.

I've challenged my mum to this many a time- she thinks she's a better driver than me and I think the opposite- our next door neighbour is a driving instructor and I keep on telling my mum that I bet I would do better than she would- the loser would pay for the 2 mock tests! Considering I passed by test with 2 minors in 2008 I think I'm in with a chance.

Well, you might be right of course - you do tend to pick up a few bad habits over the years.

But one thing for you to remember - passing a driving test is actually not very difficult and it doesn't make you a good driver. The highest accident rates are amongst recently passed drivers and experience is worth any number of driving lessons.

Just to make the point, one of my nephews passed his test with no adverse comments. 2 weeks later he pulled out of a parking space looking back over his shoulder and straight into the path of someone overtaking towards him. 2 months after that he wrote his car and someone else's off pulling out because he underestimated the speed of the car coming up behind. Banned now and he probably won't be able to afford insurance for a year or 2!

So good on you, and I hope your driving continues to improve, but don't think for a moment that after a couple of years' driving you will be in the same league as someone with 20 or more.
