Question Air Box Feed Pipe Query

The airbox feed pipe from the grill to the airbox is missing on my 1.8 VVT, will this cause problems, will the air-con and running of the vehicle be effected at all?

It won't help as it will be sucking in hot air from the engine bay. SHouldn't affect the A/C though.

Will I taste the difference in the cab, it seems on longer journeys I get a chalky taste in the mouth, could that be due to warm air or I am mixing up seperate systems?

    They're separate...

You will probably see a reduction in fuel economy and reduction in power, due to warm air feeding into the engine. Warm air has a lower density, so effectively warm = less air.

The intake for the AC and normal cabin heating/cooling system us under the scuttle panel that the windscreen wipers are attached to. There is a little flap you can open to check the pollen filter. A new filter is only £3 from Euro Car Parts or about £8 for a charcoal one. HTH.

I agree with the less power but not necessary with the less MPG. MPG drops like a stone in the colder months, couldn't tell you if its the MAF altering the mixture but i've noticed it on all my cars. I fitted a stage 1 kit to my old mini and the inlet gave you the choice of water heated or cold, the water heated deffo gave better MPG, but as said the cold better power, not that you really noticed in a Y reg 998 LOL.
