Default EGR - Does this look normal

I've been getting the P0400 code so took the engine cover off today with the intention of cleaning the EGR, but this is what I was confronted with. Looks like the EGR is leaking oil somehow?

Looks like a burn of some sort. I bought one off the bay a while ago that APPARENLTY had the Vx recall done on it whereby they take out the solenoid and do things to it, that had a very simialr burn style mark in a very simialr place!

    Bye bye Vec B

If the gasket is broken, is it ok to leave it like that if I take it off, clean the EGR up and put it back?

Will the stealers even sell that single gasket? I know you can get them to go on the inlet and exhaust.

ive had my car from new and had the egr off many times, there is no gasket there! on the cdti 150 but i see you have the 120, take it off and follow the how 2 and clean it AND the hole where it bolts to the manifold! dont forget the boost sensor while your at it. could it be that something has been left on top and got hot or melted?.

Cheers guys. I won't get time to have a look until the weekend now.

Don't think it's the solenoid otherwise the P0400 fault would be permanent, but it's only intermittent at the moment.

I'm going to give it a good clean and see if it makes a difference.
