    Default Before i start upgrading

Before Christmas, i was involved in an incident were i went to turn left out of works slip road, but due to ice and going a little too fast, the wheels turned but the car didn't, and the wheel (due to being turned) hit a 3/4 inch high curb head on. The wheel is described as a write off but still drives the car.

However over 40mph there is excessive vibrations and to think about going 70mph isn't realistic. It was the same with a 16inch stel wheel so it can't be the wheel. A mechanic said the trcking is way out but i would need a full wheel allignment to try and correct it

Visually the main components seem fine he said, but exaxtly what could be wrong considering the incident?

although he says the main components seem fine you cant always tell till you remove them if there is a problem

the things i would be looking at first would be track rod ends and tie bar on the steering rack

and the wishbones on the side of impact

theres a good chance you have bent or put one or all of these out of line thus causint the vibration

steering rack ends are cheap 30 i think mine were. its just a job of unsrew them and screw new ones in. not sure about the others.

id start buy getting your tracking done tho. cheapest thing first and getting the wheels all balanced and get the tracking done!

are you running on three alloys and one steel wheel now then?

No, i had the wheel put back to some sort of normality by some welder/wheel refurb guy. So its on all 4's now, the wheel looks ok, just like a scuff mark but it is still more than likely buckled

But having the steel wheel gave the same vibrations

Is it the same kind of vibrations with the steel ones? Starts at same speed, acts similar? If so, It should not be the wheels? My guess is that this could be some component who is turning with the wheel. Sorry bad explanation, I didnt fin better words for it What I mean, is I belive it can be brake disc, wheel hub, bearing, shafts... And not some joints. Anyway, my advise is not to start replacing alot of parts, until it is checked out what it is. It should not be very difficult to figure out what it is. For a garage (your friend), it should be a quick job to measure any imbalance.
I had the same problem with a Camry I had once. This also was related to a smash into a curb, in less than 10mph. There both hub and shafts was damaged. Not alot, but enough to make vibrations in steeringwheel.

    Best of luck!

Mods: I polished it in september...
