Default Time for the oil change

It's that time of year again and the garage have asked for £45 using semi synthetic (1.8 petrol).

I'm happy to do it myself to save a few quid. Any recommendations on which oil to choose? Is there realistically any real difference between Castrol GTX, Magnatec, Halfords own, or any other "budget" oils?

I'm not one for being tight with something as critical as the oil, but don't want to be wasting my cash on something branded that makes sod all difference!
