Default Unregistering a brand new car?

Is it possible to unregister a brand new car with the DVLA after its been registered to someone?

The reason i ask is that i have been into the Citreon main dealers today to ask about a 1.6 petrol VTR+NAV C5.
After discussing my requirements he pointed to a C5 in the car park and told me this sorry tale.He said that they had ordered a diesel C5 for a customer and it was registered to him. When it arrived they realised it was a petrol 1.6 model. They then had to sell him an alternative car and are now in the process of deregistering the car so that it can be sold as one owner. They have said that if they cannot get it deregistered then it will be classed as a prereg model.

Now the list price for the car i am looking at is £21000 with paint. They will only drop to £20500.A popular car magazine says that the target price is £19500(with paint) so theres still some room for coming down on price.

Now assuming that the car they have in stock remains preregistered then whats a good price to offer assuming that it is a 59 plate(with 1 mile on the clock) compared to a March delivery and a 10 plate.

I would have thought at least £500 off the target price of £19500.So £18995 would be ok with me.
Do you think that this is a fair price or should i try harder.
I know i can get it cheaper online but my wife wants to stick with our local main dealer even though his prices seem high to me.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

    Vehicle : Signum

    Trim : Elite

    Engine : 3.2 v6

    Year : 2004

    Mileage : 110,000

    Default

Offer him 15,000 grand after all it is pre-owned.
Would love to see his face if you did. the bottom line is they made a mistake and will be doing their best to try to lose as little money as possible. Personally I don't know about deregistering (is that a real word) a car but I would not think so.
No doubt someone will be able to tell us, I hope so because I would like to know.
3.2 v6 Signum and loving it

I would doubt very much that you can deregister a car, otherwise all the pre-reg'd cars would be done. I would be tempted to offer him about £16 G and start from there. After all it will have one previous owner on the V5C, no matter how few miles it has.

Have a look to see how much pre-reg'd cars go for and use that as consideration.

Tell you wife to stop licking windows...
Why pay more than you have to? Why buy from the local dealer?
All dealers do anyway are screw people over. If it's because of servicing / warrenty, you can still get it serviced there.

    Hi,
At the end of the day they screwed up, your turn to screw them as well

I went into a Peugeot dealer a few years ago, the wife really wanted a 307 DTurbo, was in the showroom for nearly 18k, told him I'd seen them for 13,000 on the internet, if he wanted me to take the car off his hands he'd have to come close. Salesman laughed at me, so I went straight to the Sales Manager with the offer.

2 days later, called me back, offered me the car for 13750, with labour free servicing while I owned the car, and a free first MOT. Took delivery of the car a few days later

Might not work for you, but worth a shot, I got my figures from the back of a what car magazine, not sure if they still do, but they used to publish MRRP and a price you should expect to pay, always worth a quick look in the local newsagents for a copy to peek at

A good site for checking pre reg and new car prices is www.broadspeed.com. They get the cars from all the main dealers so they would give you a good indication on what to pay for a car, and the delivery time, I have used this site all the time to check car prices.

Personally I wouldnt buy a car off the internet becuase my mum had a bad experience from it as the company she bought it from commited fraud, and she lost the car so ended up going to cour to get her money back.

Well after getting mine for half price (pre reg) after many days ratching about on the internet I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand completely!

Over on VXRonline I've giggled as a few people have put posts up along the lines of "calling all dealers I want a ....... what can you do for me??" they've got some stonking deals. I asked my local dealership if they could do the Insignia for what was quoted online they chased me off the premises..

    HTH.
