    Default WIFI - How?

Im going to connect up my pc now ive got a new phone line working. Ive decided that instead of trailing a wire across the landing and up and down door casings im going to wifi.

The telephone point is in the main bedroom, and pc is in another bedroom. What do I need and what plugs in where to achieve this. I also have a lap top that I would like to include on the network that I can use downstairs.

Wireless router into the phone line and an ADSL adaptor for each phone if you're on Broad band.

A wireless card or USB device for each PC

A USB/ethernet cable depending on the router to initially set it up.

You on NTL/Telewest or BT Andy? Is your broadband got an ethernet connection on it or just USB?

i think i may go with the plug in things. I saw them in B&Q but thought they were a bit gimmicky. After reading the reviews though, i think i'll go for it.

Get the Buffalo thing I got (courtesy of John (CDTi), thanks again mate). You get the router and ADSL modem as a package for I think it was £60. It sets absolutely everything up itself, detects your internet connection type and speed etc. The only thing you have to do is plug it all in.

Plug in things are excellent but you do pay for it. Netgear suck big time.

    Gary - Anytime mate

Buffalo thing Gary got was a complete package, hence why I asked if you had a USB or ethernet modem. If you have an NTL connection you most likely have ethernet in the back so can get it without the modem. Works brilliantly

WIFI is super easy mate... doesn't really matter what kit you get.
The router may need settings up initially, but most are intelligent enough to auto detect your settings now.
then the cards for the pc/laptop is just a case of installing the drivers that come with the kit and then running windows network setup wizard
