I'll take the ford out of the equation even though it looks great, voted MPS because of the 4x4 & handling. But, you can't get them remapped I keep reading. So VXR is fastest.

BMW 335d coupe all the way.

The VXR might be quick in a straight line, but it will not do corners ! the ST220 might not
beat the VXR off the lights, but on the track the Ford will put the power it has down on the tarmac through the corners !

mine goes round corners no problems, the M3 i was chasing the other day was all over the place but the vxr felt well planted, and i even forgot to press the sport button.....Top gear made the vxr look as bad as hey could....in all reality it corners very very well.

its already been established that during the filming of that top gear video, they asked how to turn the ESP off, and were told it couldn't be done.

They took matters into their own hands, and pulled the fuse for the ESP, and pulled the fuse on the Traction Control and the IDS+ system as well. All of the electronic aids that do enable it to go round corners.

So you've got 255bhp going straight to the front wheels without any restriction or aids, and then he puts his foot down halfway through the corner to show "it cant do corners" If you check the opening part of the vectra clip, it shows the vectra taking a fast left (presumably hammerhead) without any issues at all !


Clarkson doesn't like vectras and grossly over exaggerated everything to make a point. If you'd ever been in one of these cars you'd know that.

fast forward to 11:15 and the ST220 did the lap in 1:34.5, the Vectra in 1.35.3 so only 0.8 econds quicker.

how much quicker do you think it would be round the track A) with the newer 280 PS version which apparently had some IDS+ tweaks to make it handle better and B) if they actually left the ESP and IDS+ system on instead of turning them off ??

the Vectra wouldnt have looked as bad as it did in the clip, and would have been faster than the ST220. And would have probably looked more like this

Couldn't agree more, not hard to make a car look bad and anyone watching that can see it.
