Took the plastic engine cover thing off the engine to find a bar with lots of bends in it laying on its side on top of the block, think narrowed it down to a swirl bar but even i know shouldn't be just laying there so how important is it

Well it should be on for start ... It means ur i let manifold is coming to an end of its life span ... Any oil around flaps ?
Just take it out and lob it in the garage, tis what I did to mine about 20000 miles ago
No mate its fine, mine runs like a dream even without it, no lumpyness no warning lights or error codes
whats the point in it then lol
Glue 1,2,4 open at 10'clock they will be fine untill your ready to replace inlet
Gaz
Needs a new inlet manifold, it'll be full of crap which is why the flaps seize and connector rod brakes off. Egr will probably be goosed too.
