    Vehicle : Vectra

    Trim : SRi

    Engine : 1?? - Teapot mapped

    Year : 2006

    Mileage : 125000

Default My real world remapped CDTi mpg..

So at the start of a short break to the cotswolds I decided to see exactly what mpg my car does.

Apart from a lively teapot map and blanked EGR its a bog standard 150, though serviced regularly.

Before the journey I brimmed the tank and reset the trip counter. The car has been 4-up (2 adults 2 kids) and a boot full of crap for all the driving. A mixture of motorway - cruising and stop-start, A-roads, plenty of minor B-roads with some occasionally welly has I thought given a good variance for a realistic and genuine mpg.

After just over half a tank used I refilled and done the maths.......

.....a very respectable 56.2mpg! Even the trip computer said 56.9 so that seems to be calibrated well

So glad I got the remap done, bags more power and quite possibly better consumption

I would not put reliable down in the same sentence when referring to these engines though.

Good to read your post remap economy figures though.

I have to disagree with you nige

Once all the problematic crap is removed or disabled (swirl flaps, EGR valve, DPF if fitted) and routine maintenance is completed on schedule, I've found these engines - both the 8v and the 16v - to be very reliable. Of course some items such as the dual-mass flywheel will inevitably wear out every 80-100k and need replacing at great expense, but almost all modern diesels have the same issue.

You never hear about these engines suffering any catastrophic failure such as bearings, pistons, head gasket, etc even when running at ridiculous power levels. They are an extremely strong engine. I think GM had more input to the block and head design than FIAT. But I reckon FIAT were allowed to choose the ancillary components such as the intake manifolds

That's qualifies as a modified engine not its problematic factory standard format. I have one myself remember, I am removing all the weak points to make it reliable so that it will last.

It may still run but that's doesn't mean it's been trouble free.
