Default z30dt error P0195-07 -P0195 - Engine Oil Temperature Sensor Circuit High Input

    Im getting error P0195-07

P0195 - Engine Oil Temperature Sensor Circuit High Input
    (07) - Not present

Could anybody enlighten me as to what it likely is, where the oil temp sensor is, or wires that I could follow to find it and check the connections.

It would appear the sensor is giving bad readings, -3c when I started the engine despite ambient temperatures of 18c outdoors today.

It rose to +3c when the fuel temp was 55c..... oil should be hotter by far surely! Me thinks it might be ******ed or suffering a electrical problem.

******, this error is back to haunt me. I wonder if the sensor I got from www.sjsportscars.co.uk is a little rubbish or if the cabling is at the end of its life?

    Vehicle : vauxhall vivaro

    Trim : Basic

    Engine : 1.9

    Year : 2004

It's negative temp coefficient sensor I believe
so operates on same principle as a coolant temp sensor

close to 5v when cold and slowing decreases as temp increases

if you've replaced sensor and it's still bad

take a test light connected to ground and connect to plug for sensor read live data what does it read? Should read low potentily minus numbers
do same test with test light connected to battery positive should read high

post that should prove if wiring works correctly

I replaced it with a budget equivalent sensor and it looks identical but I had this problem before and the terminal had fallen out of the inside of the plug. I checked the plug again and this time the terminals have remained in place but last time it was definitely the sensor that failed, not the wiring. Its feasible that this time it could be the wiring but I'm unsure, my mind keeps telling me that the sensor could be a cheap copy and have failed.

Ill try inserting something into the plug and then attach to my multimeter, sadly the plug holes are too small to get the probes in. You think I should see 5v and 0v?

I guess I should measure the resistance on the sensor or check for continuity on the sensor but haven't got round to that yet.

I spoke to Vauxhall and they have one in stock for £46 for a genuine one.

I should add that I got some temperature variation from the ECU, ranging in the -40c to -37c so this suggests some variation in the resistance from the sensor, so it may be working still but outside of the normal range. I wish I had had more time to test it but due to work (on TV) i neither have had the time nor the desire to come out with mucky oil covered hands.

Im going to send the mother in law on a mission to collect a genuine sensor on the off chance that its that. I can at least measure the resistance and compare before removing the sensor from the car and dropping a load of oil.

I got the mother in law to collect a genuine sensor yesterday from VX, £46 down with the Masterfit club card to £34.

There is a noticeable difference with the part, a shorter probe on the genuine part and its also softer copper. The price was the obvious difference. For the record I should remind people that this non-oem part lasted from November to April, the car has been off the road for a few months and has now failed in July. A total false economy. It cost me around £18.

Easy to fit, and I also popped some amalgamating tape around the electrics just to be sure that its good.

I thought I would run some tests on the failed part, and one of the probs had begun to corrode, the resistance through the circuit had gone up into the kOhm range at room temperature unlike the new part which had barely readable resistance 2Ohm from memory. I also decided to rip the part apart to see the insides and share a pic...

The part was full of what seemed to be thermal paste and a single loop of wire through the centre, The wire seems to be well secured in the circuit and the thermal compound seemed ok so I think the issue was the corrosion of the terminal on the outside of the plug. Its likely made of monkey metal in comparison to the higher quality original part.

I thought I would share some words of wisdom in the style of Jerry Springer:

Buy a genuine sensor, save yourself a early part failure, check you part ships in a genuine box that looks like this....
