See a thread lower down about loss of PAS and the ICON showing on the dash. I have a very similar problem but mine happens whenever it feels like. Including driving which makes this car dangerous.
I have had power issues since I owned it second hand. With warning systems and car going into limp home mode.
I cant find any reserviour any where and from what I can see is some form of Electro-Hydraulic system which I can find no info on at all.
ANY IDEAS WHICH COULD ASSIST ME?
Every time VX have said its stored a fault on clutch switch but accuse me of riding the pedal which I dont.
Also had low oil light come on which when checked is absolutly fine.
Hope you guys dont mind this being my first post.
Thanks
Lee

don't mind you making this your first post at all!! :D
power steering...it is a hydraulic/electric system..the reservior is down on the rack..If it keeps cutting out, get it to a dealer as it will store a code relating to the electrical supply failing..they have to reset the system..It isn't unknown thou for these racks to have the pump fail completely..if it's out of warranty then it's about six hundred quid to get another, thou there are service exchange ones avaliable..Take it to VX and complain about the lifespan of the unit and tell them it's dangerous..see if they'll change it FOC..
the clutch switch fault is more than likely down to the pedal return spring which has been subject to an unofficial recall with the dealers quietly replacing them while the car is in for service..sounds like yours hasn't been changed..it lets the pedal not fully contact the switch, so giving that fault..you're being fobbed off.
low oil light.. sender's failing..not a big job to change and yet again, not the first time it's come up on here..

This sounds like the dodgy ABS connector syndrome, where the dash dies on you, but will come back up or at least can be re-booted, it does cause fault codes, and can (my old C did) have the power steering drop out as well.

Ouch. knew it was going to hurt the wallet.
Does any one have a part code for one to see if I could get an exchange.
Thanks for the help so far, was a warm welcome :D

Thanks for the welcomes. I had trained as a rover mechanic when I left school and still enjoy diy mechanics.
However as I am looking to sell I guess its better if VX fit as well. I did look earlier after I found a PDF file on here. Fluid levels all ok.
How long would they get or should I say how many hours labour would be on top of the parts as a guess-ta-mate

I have no idea mate, but I would think probably round about 2 to 3 hours

Asked the question today and I was well out. You're looking at 4.5 to 5 hours as the subframe has to be dropped. New bolts have to be fitted to the subframe as well as they are the stretchy type like most cylinder head bolts now. HTH

Not on the rack Mark, on the subframe, but you probably meant to type 'subframe' so I'll let you off :D ;)
Yes, stretchy bolts indeed. When will it end? :) apparently, if you use the old bolts again it causes horrendous knocking. (Depends how tight you put 'em ;) )

Well to be honest I think I have an electrical issue with my car.
Im not going to send to a garage as they will hurt my wallet.
But I think these electrical issues were the cause of my temporary loss of power steering.
Its now moved to turning on my engine management light when it feels like it. Vauxhall said it was due to me riding the clutch which i dont as I use cruise control so much.
And the lights DIM loads and stereo switchs off when I turn my steering at low speeds
Still a great car though

Get the alternator output checked..sounds like it's failing to supply enough power to run all the electrical systems..My lights dim on tickover when i move the steering, but it doesn't shut down any of the other systems..

they don't go into a safe mode, but have you got a warning symbol on the dash shaped like a steering wheel??.
The pump motor for the steering is on the drivers side, in front of the wheels.. is there any chance you could have hit that?..

hi mate it has hit the pump at the bottom ,but only done a little dent ,this could be the reason, i have checked the power to the pump with a tester and that his ok ,the light his on for the power sterring on the clocks,i price a pump up from vaux 580 plus vat,not paying that , going to find a second hand one from car breaker ,hope this his the problem.

it may be worth geting the car into VX to see if the pump is salvageable, but i do think that the motor is US if the pumpcase is damaged..
try vauxbits.com i've used these guys and they have been okay with me..they do mail order.
